Our philosophy: capability drives performance

Maximize the added value of IT

The added value of Information Technology is still a much debated topic. Research has shown that it is mostly the organization and management of the entire IT-chain that determines the contribution of Information Technology to the success of your organization. Organizations that have the management of their IT-chain in order, are more successful than their competitors. While this is a nice insight, the question is how organizations achieve this?

The combination of business and IT

Nowadays IT is an essential part of the operations of every organization. Managing IT however is often still regarded as the sole responsibility of the internal IT department. At the same time, that internal IT department has increasingly been organizing itself as a service provider, with their own strategy, policies and culture. This ‘disconnect’ in the supply chain makes it impossible to manage the value added by IT to the entire organization.

In our perspective it is time that business-executives take ownership of the management of IT. In order to do this they need a fitting strategy that defines the way in which the organization wants to manage the IT value chain. This strategy is also called ‘value management’ and should be an essential part of the corporate strategy of every organization.

Focus on core activities

IT organizations can focus on the needs of and added value to the entire organization by taking the right choices on what activities to do themselves and where to use the knowledge and expertise available from third parties. A fitting IT sourcing strategy is therefore a necessary condition for organizing and managing the chain, aimed at maximizing the added value of IT.

Capability drives Performance

Knowledge, skills, processes and behavior (combined the ‘capabilities’) of individuals and organizations are essential in organizing the IT chain. These capabilities of individuals and organizations are the elements that can be deployed in order to influence the performance of an organization. To increase the added value of IT, it is these capabilities that need to be analyzed and improved.
