Organizing the IT value chain

IT services are commonly provided in a demand & supply chain. The performance of IT is therefore affected by the entire chain is linked and cooperates. This ability in turn is determined by the knowledge, skills, processes, structure and behavior (combined called the 'capabilities') of all individuals in and parts of the chain. It is for this reason that BlinkLane always examines IT challenges from a chain-perspective and has the capabilities play a central role in every analysis.

The essential chain capabiities can be grouped into 4 themes:

  1. Structure & Governance
This theme is about organizational structures for the different parts in the chain and the related governance mechanisms. This is relevant for the regular organization and for projects and programs alike.
  2. Processes & Tools
This theme is about the presence and quality of processes and tools. There are numerous best-practice models available in this field. For chain optimization BlinkLane utilizes many of these models, like eSCM-SP, eSCM-cl, ITIL, CMMi, CobiT and Val IT.
Read more about these models under instruments.
  3. People & Competences
This theme is about the actors and their competences. For achieving improvements in this field BlinkLane uses the People Capability Maturity Model and models for compentence management.
  4. Culture & Behaviour
This theme is about the cultural and behavioral aspects of organizational dynamics of IT chains. For change management in this field BlinkLane utilizes best-practice models like Hofstede's cultural dimensions.

BlinkLane uses an incremental methodology for achieving value management improvements.
